About the school

A weekend home for Tamil learners.

The Darwin Thamizh School is the language school of the Tamil Society NT, running weekend classes at the Darwin Languages Centre, 1 Nemarluk Drive, Ludmilla. We welcome children from beginner to advanced levels for structured classes in reading, writing, speaking and Tamil literature, all taught by passionate volunteer teachers from our community.

Beyond language, students gain a strong sense of cultural identity through songs, stories, festivals and community events.

Curriculum

What students learn

Foundation

Tamil alphabet (உயிர் & மெய்), pronunciation, simple words and rhymes.

Beginner

Reading short sentences, basic conversation, writing practice.

Intermediate

Storybook reading, grammar essentials, cultural studies.

Advanced

Tamil literature (இலக்கியம்), composition, public speaking and Thirukkural.

Classes run Sundays 10:00–11:15 am during school terms at the Darwin Languages Centre, 1 Nemarluk Drive, Ludmilla. Tuition fees include books and homework notebook.
